I wish to move forward in my life in this way, with a very simple idea of what art can be in the 21st century : art asks important questions; otherwise, it’s decoration. I diverge from the « art for art’s sake » credo, asserting art’s spiritual, societal and political significance.

why using ai ?

Leveraging ai for digital art has allowed me to express my intentions and emotions more compellingly. I’ve set aside traditional photography in favor of a palette of ai tools to produce art that feels authentic to me.

I acknowledge the art community’s reservations about ai, including copyright issues and the potential for forgeries. The philosophical debate on ai’s role in art reflects the transformative period akin to photography’s dawn, teeming with questions.

It is human stupidity that is toxic, not tools. With ai, this stupidity is found both in its use and, to an indeterminate extent, in the very nature of the tool itself.

Therefore, the advent of ai tools should be approached with caution, given human tendencies toward folly rather than nobility. Artists must adopt ai to maintain their crucial role in portraying the human condition as we face self-inflicted peril.

I don’t believe that ai will replace any art forms. Techniques complement each other, they don’t replace each other, and there’s a lot of work involved in bringing all these techniques together. I have enormous respect for the painter’s craft, and I admire screenwriters just as much, who only need a notebook and a pencil to create something brilliant.

One day, someone who was very critical of my work said to me, “I can spot ai a mile off.” I replied that I can spot painting, photography, theater, and dance a mile off. So what? What’s important is to hear what moves me a mile off.

how i use ai

ai isn’t an end but a tool I blend into a multimedia composition, enhancing creative serendipity, emotion, and prowess. As ai’s capabilities expand to include video, 3D, music, and writing, artists will be distinguished by their intentions and the insights they offer, not merely their style or medium.

In my practice, I strive for a unique style, navigating the complexities of this evolving medium. If Nikon or Photoshop are my stalwarts, then Midjourney, Mystic, Flux, Firefly, Magnific, are wild mustangs.

My ethical rule for ai: never mimic another artist’s style. I never mention an artist in my prompts. When I deliberately draw inspiration from an artist to reinterpret one of their works, I state this clearly, as is the case with Edward Hopper (Tribute to Josephine Hopper) and Georges de la Tour (Saint Jerome Reading).

Although ai inherently assimilates influences, and I too am shaped by artists I admire, there’s a profound difference between being influenced and intentionally copying another’s style.
